Acoma Cattle Growers' Association

The Acoma Cattle Growers Association (ACGA) has been in existence for more than 50 years. The association is made up of 25 individual members and their families who belong to the Acoma Pueblo tribe. Ranching has been the livelihood of the Acoma Pueblo people for generations. The Pueblo of Acoma is located approximately 50 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Our Breeds of Cattle

The Beef Master-Black Angus cross were the choice breed for the Acoma Cattle Growers Association. This is due to range, elevation and climate conditions. These factors played a major part in our cattle selection. This breed of cattle withstands the adverse range conditions that New Mexico has to offer. We have seen satisfactory levels of production in practical and severe range conditions. Our cattle are hearty, have a good disposition, superior genetic qualities and have faster growth rates. This docile breed also travels well. The abortion rate has been reduced due to the smaller calves born to this cross. We have also seen less pink eye and lice in our breed of cattle. These cattle adapt well to areas with less forage and little to no supplemental feed.
